Edward David Makasjian

With great sadness, the family of Edward David Makasjian mourns his passing on Tuesday, October 17, 2023. Edward peacefully slipped away while sleeping in his home in San Clemente, CA at the age of 95. He leaves behind a legacy of love, knowledge, and cultural appreciation that will forever be cherished by his loved ones.
Edward was born on April 5, 1928, in Alexandria, Egypt. He attended College Saint-Marc, a French Catholic School. In 1955, he emigrated to the United States where he encountered the love of his life and partner for 67 years, Rose (Madzoeff). Together they embarked on a journey in Downey, CA where they raised their four children.
One of the proudest moments in Edward’s life was becoming a U.S. citizen. Shortly after gaining citizenship, he pursued a career as a CA licensed Real Estate Broker. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to open American Realty in Downey, CA. Later on, he formed a partnership with his brother Zare David Makasjian and together they operated Armen Realty on Santa Monica Blvd in Los Angeles, CA.
Edward held an incredible wealth of knowledge and culture close to his heart. He possessed a deep appreciation for education, literature, fine arts, music, and languages. Fluent in English, Armenian, French, Italian, Turkish Arabic and Greek; he delighted in sharing his linguistic abilities with others. A man of many talents and passions; Edward took great pride in his years as a docent at the Getty Museum and the L.A. County Museum of Art. His presence enriched those around him with endless anecdotes and insights into the world of art.
Travel was another passion that brought joy to Edward’s life. From cross country road trips to voyages across foreign seas; he reveled in exploring different destinations both near and far. Cruising was particularly dear to his heart, as he found solace and contentment on the open waters, creating lasting memories with his loved ones.
Edward will be deeply missed by his beloved wife Rose, their children (Leon) Michael, Michele, David, and Albert. He will forever remain in the hearts of his grandchildren Anais and Graeme. Edward’s legacy extends beyond his immediate family, touching the lives of countless others who had the privilege of knowing him. He also leaves behind daughter-in-laws Hannah and Ani and several nieces and nephews who will lovingly remember his guidance and unwavering support.
A funeral service to celebrate Edward’s life will be held on November 2, 2023, at 10 a.m. The service will take place at Forest Lawn-Glendale in the serene setting of the Church of the Recessional located at 1712 S. Edward David Makasjian touched the lives of many with his intelligence, warmth, and compassion. His presence was a beacon of light that illuminated every room he entered. Although he may no longer be with us physically, his spirit will forever live on in our hearts. May his soul find eternal peace as we bid farewell to a remarkable individual whose love and wisdom transcended time.
