Doug Hoskins
August 15, 1971 - September 21, 2023
Doug Hoskins, a lifelong Downey resident, passed away in late September at the age of 52 following a short but fierce battle with cancer. Doug was born in August of 1971 and attended Alameda & Gallatin Elementary Schools. He went on to Griffiths Middle School and graduated from Warren High in 1989.
Doug worked in the bowling industry since high school, starting ground level at Del Rio Lanes. He chased pins and progressively melding his craft with his interest & knowledge of computing and technology. Applying guidance from his mentor and friend Charlie, Doug achieved a 35 year career behind the scenes of the California bowling industry.
As a kid, Doug went on numerous roadtrips and airplane vacations with his family, giving him a passion for travel that lasted into adulthood. Doug met his wife Bridgett, the love of his life, through his bowling endeavours and together the two embarked on numerous cruises and trips, especially ones that included visits to ballparks across the country. They had an epic vacation to Paris planned this past Spring when cancer called that journey off.
Doug was fun loving and invested quality time plotting to help his friends enjoy a good laugh. Doug also liked sporting events. He enjoyed the Clippers and USC Trojans, but most of all he was a huge fan of Angels baseball. He and Bridgett could frequently be seen in their seats at Angel Stadium. Earlier this season, Mike Trout gifted Doug a signed bat, encouraging him in his fight against cancer.
Doug is survived by his wife Bridgett, his sister Lianne, his stepson Jonathan Huezo, brother-in-law Mark, niece Emily, nephew Zach, as well as his mother Arliss. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Genny Olsen and sisters-in-law Cheryl, Theresa, and Tiffany. He was preceded in death by his father, Hugh T. Hoskins.
A Celebration of Life will be held later this month at Angel Stadium. Condolences may be sent to the family in care of Del Rio Lanes.
