Sports camps begin next week

DOWNEY – Multiple city-sponsored children’s sports programs are scheduled to get underway Monday and it’s not too late to sign up. Co-ed basketball and volleyball leagues are eight weeks long and offered to children ages 7-13 (volleyball) and 7-14 in basketball.

The basketball league is from 2-3 p.m. (ages 13-14); 3-4 p.m. (ages 10-12) and 4-5 p.m. (ages 7-9). The program is held daily Monday through Thursday. Cost is $125 for Downey residents and $129 for non-residents, not including a $50 uniform fee.

Volleyball is from 6:30-8 p.m. for all ages. It meets Tuesdays and Thursdays. Cost is $105 for residents and $129 for non-residents, plus $40 for a uniform.

The city is also offering basketball, volleyball, baseball and football training camps that focus on fundamentals. Players of all abilities are welcome.

Training camps are for ages 7-17 and will be offered June 23-26 and June 30 – July 3 from 9 a.m. to noon. Fee is $120 for residents and $124 for non-residents (per camp).
