Optimist Club of Downey annual Scholarship and Awards Luncheon

Students from Columbus, Downey and Warren High Schools celebrate after being honored at the Optimist Club of Downey annual Scholarship and Awards Luncheon at the Rio Hondo Event Center.  Three years ago, the Optimists presented three cash awards to worthy seniors.  This year, they presented 25 Scholarship and Awards to the students, the most in the long history of the Optimist Club of Downey.  Joining the students were members of the Board of Education and school advisors and counselors.  The chair of this year’s Optimist scholarship program was Beverly Mathis (far right).  Her committee reviewed more than 100 applications from local high school students.  The scholarships and awards are funded by money raised at the annual Optimist Charity Golf Tournament.
