Dr. Stauffer recognition

Dear Editor: I agree completely with Valentin Flores’ eloquent appeal to the community to  “commemorate Dr. Stauffer’s legacy and everything she has done for the city of Downey for many generations to come” (The Downey Patriot, 5/15/14)

I respectfully suggest that the Downey Unified School Board District could do more than the ephemeral newspaper half-page ad (The Downey Patriot, 5/1/14) to recognize Dr. Stauffer’s philanthropic contributions to the education of the children of Downey by naming a school after her.

Prior school district superintendents have been recognized for doing a good job. Even more so than them, Dr. Stauffer has contributed her time and resources at a degree never seen before in Downey.

She deserves to be recognized for having given so much to the children, schools, and teachers of Downey.
