16 arrested at Lakewood checkpoint
LAKEWOOD - Sixteen people were arrested at a DUI and driver's license checkpoint last Friday night in Lakewood, sheriff's officials announced.The checkpoint was stationed on Del Amo Boulevard, just west of Pioneer Boulevard. Five people were arrested on misdemeanor charges of possessing marijuana. Two people face felony charges for carrying ecstasy and hash oil. Three drivers with suspended or revoked licenses were arrested. Two drivers with no licenses at all also were charged. One person was charged with knowingly allowing an unlicensed driver to get behind the wheel. Sheriff's deputies arrested two drivers allegedly high on marijuana. One suspected drunk driver was also caught. Meanwhile, a Jan. 4 checkpoint on Alondra Boulevard in Bellflower resulted in 22 arrests, including nine for driving without a license. Three people face charges for driving while high on marijuana, and one driver was allegedly high and also drunk. Three drivers were arrested for illegal possession of narcotics, and four drivers were caught driving on suspended or revoked licenses. Deputies arrested two people who allegedly allowed an unlicensed driver to get behind the wheel.
