Babysitter's boyfriend accused of beating 2-year-old
NORWALK -- A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of beating a toddler so severely that he has been hospitalized in "extremely critical condition." Sheriff's deputies arrested 23-year-old Elder Matamoros, who is the boyfriend of the babysitter left to watch the baby.
Sheriff's deputies and paramedics responded to the 11400 block of Maza Street on Sunday at 12:50 p.m. after receiving a report of a baby not breathing.
The 2-year-old boy is being treated at Miller Children's Hospital in Long Beach, where he is listed in extremely critical condition.
"It is believed the suspect assaulted the victim by using blunt force trauma," investigators said.
Matamoros was charged with cruelty to a child likely to produce great bodily injury or death and is being held on $100,000 bail.
