Young women chosen for Miss Bellflower

BELLFLOWER - Seven young ladies have been chosen to become the city of Bellflower's new ambassadors. The Miss Bellflower Competition held June 5 in the William Bristol Auditorium was themed "Around the World." Contestants performed dances, songs and skits representing their country of choice. Contestants also competed in Business Wear and Evening Gown categories, where they were escorted by Bellflower firefighters. Unlike past years when contestants answered a single question, this year the ladies faced a panel composed of previous Miss Bellflower courts and a Miss Downey queen. Out of 21 contestants, seven were chosen for the Court: Nelly Umeh (princess), Kira Orta (teen princess), Raquel Ramirez (princess), Karla Gonzalez (queen), Rocio Martinez (teen queen), Shola Olashebikan (princess) and Stephanie Rivas (teen princess). Lucy Lynn Wilson directed and choreographed the event.
