University hosting Hispanic literature symposium

CARSON - The Cal State Dominguez Hills Department of Modern Languages, in conjunction with the nonprofit Instituto Literario y Cultural Hispanico, will host the 38th International Symposium of Hispanic Literature from March 7-8 in the Loker Student Union.The event is free and open to the public. More than 130 authors and Spanish literature experts from throughout the U.S., Canada, Cuba, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Mexico, Argentina, Spain, Italy, France, and Trinidad and Tobago will present and share their research on various works of Hispanic literature during the three-day symposium, conducted mostly in Spanish. This year's event pays homage to Elena Poniatowska, distinguished Mexican author and journalist. She will open the symposium on Wednesday and close it on Friday with keynote addresses. The author of 40 books and the first woman to win Mexico's National Award for Journalism, Poniatowska is one of Mexico's best known writers. Her artistic career spans over 60 years.
