Two people killed in latest collision at Downey intersection
DOWNEY — A late-night crash over the weekend resulted in two fatalities, the second deadly incident to occur this year at the intersection of Downey and Florence avenues.
According to Downey Police, on Oct. 11 at approximately 10:56 pm, a 17-year-old male resident of Whittier was driving westbound on Florence when he collided with a vehicle traveling southbound on Downey Avenue
The driver and passenger of the southbound vehicle, identified by police as a 23-year-old and 31-year-old from La Mesa, were pronounced dead at the scene. The teen was transported to a local trauma center.
This is the second fatal accident to occur at the intersection this year.
On July 26 at approximately 10 am, a 41-year-old Downey resident who was standing at the southwest corner of the intersection was struck by a vehicle turning southbound onto Downey Avenue. The pedestrian was transported to a local trauma center where they were pronounced dead.
The driver of the vehicle, a 44-year-old Lynwood resident, remained at the scene. No arrests have been made.
Police records show there have been 45 reported traffic collisions at the intersection since January 2022.
