Tree removal

Dear Editor:I have been waiting for something in the paper about the trees being taken down by the city. I know how and why only because I was outside watering when the public works gentleman stopped on my block and started counting trees. I know Rives Avenue was torn up for over a week and my block won't be finished for another couple of weeks. This is going on all over town and I would expect the local paper to carry some notice or story about it. I hate to see these 50-year-old trees coming down and replaced by baby trees that don't support the bird population or protect us from the heat and searing sun. - Margaret Blackburn, Downey
