Letter to the Editor: The problem with today's role models
Dear Editor:
Never mind equal pay. Men and women in sports are highly overpaid, as are actors. They are just entertainers.
Young people need heroes and role models who actually make a contribution to the world. There are doctors, engineers, teachers, carpenters, a multitude of unheralded people, including many non-profit organizations, who minister to the needs of poor people in our country and other countries.
There are individuals who mentor teens, foster children, help disabled and elderly and do hundreds of things to create a better life for many. A handful of sports stars use their money for such causes. That is the only usefulness of their undeserved wealth.
Stop making them heroes--they aren’t.
