Stop for pedestrians

Dear Editor: “I attend Yolie’s Fitness Class on the corner of Firestone and Old River School Road. Occasionally I like to walk from my house to class. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve almost been run over while I’m in the crosswalk. This morning was no exception. I was almost hit three times crossing Firestone at the signal.

Cars making a right turn going east onto Firestone from south Old River School Road completely ignored that I was in the crosswalk with the right to cross. Second car followed but at least he acknowledged I was there by flipping me off and went right on by while I’m stopped in the crosswalk.

By the time the third vehicle came upon me, I was madder than mad, so I stopped and screamed out ‘Stop!’ A friend was waiting in her car at the light and witnessed everything that happened. My witness told me that the man in the third vehicle looked at me like I was some wild banshee. Well, guess what? I was some wild banshee knowing I came very close to being run over.

And seeing on the news that in today’s society drivers do not stop for human beings they’ve run over, I needed to vent in not only yelling at that third driver but also by writing this letter in hopes that one of those three drivers reads this and feels bad enough to slow down and stop for pedestrians.
