Lola Ann Chesick was LAUSD records clerk
DOWNEY – A memorial service for Lola Ann Chesick will be held Saturday, May 9, at 1 p.m. at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson, Minnesota. Interment will be at the Benson City Cemetery. Lola Ann (Welker) Chesick, 91, formerly of Downey, (having resided also in Willmar, Minnesota in recent years), passed away quietly from natural causes at the Chris Jensen Nursing Home in Duluth the morning of April 27.
Lola was born July 13, 1923 in Torning Township, Benson.
After graduating from Benson High School in 1941, Lola moved to California, where she met her future husband, John Chesick. They married in Naugatuck, CT March 2, 1946, then returned to California in 1949.
She enjoyed working as a school records clerk for the Los Angeles Unified School District until her retirement in 1980.
Lola moved back to Willmar in 2002 to be closer to her family. As a member of Vinje Luthern Church, Lola enjoyed greeting and passing out bulletins to members.
Lola enjoyed traveling, including trips to Europe, Australia, Hawaii and Alaska.
Lola is survived by her children: Blake Chesick, William Chesick and Kathleen Moe; grandchildren: Sheila Voss, Celeste Voss, Blake Chesick Jr., Stephanie Xenos and Daniel Tietjen, Aurora Tietjen and Eric Tietjen, as well as her seven great grandchildren; her brother, Bill (Marie) Welker, sister-in-law, Mona Welker, and all of her nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Lola was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, John Chesick (1996), parents William Harold and Minda Katinka (Johnson) Welker, siblings Audrey & Delmer Loen, Keith & Barb Welker, Arlys and Harry Barduson, Neil Welker, infant brother Neil Roger Welker in 1931, and nephew, Brian Welker.
