Starla Stephens mourned

DOWNEY – Starla Stephens, a resident of Downey for over 30 years, passed away on Saturday, May 23, after a very short battle with lung cancer. 

She had never been a smoker, and her sudden diagnosis and passing occurred within the same week. 

Starla was born in Rapid City, South Dakota and was the daughter of Patrick and Bonnie Callanan. She grew up in South Gate and moved to Downey soon after marrying her husband of 31 years. Starla was a stay-at-home mom for 27 years and and was a mother of two. 

She is survived by her husband Jeff; her son Brett and his wife, Jessica; her daughter Brianna; her mother Bonnie and Step-father, Ron; her three sisters; in addition to many family members and friends. 

Her celebration of life will be held on June 14. In lieu of flowers, her family requests donations to the American Cancer Society.
