Sex offenders
Dear Editor:It is time for the Downey City Council to emulate the actions of Huntington Beach and other cities and ban sex offenders from parks, playgrounds and trails. Also they should be restricted to be at least in a 5-block radius away from any school or place where children congregate. Here is why: there are 108 registered sex offenders living in Downey currently (per the Megan Law website). Some live near schools and parks. Some have been observed near school exits at the time that schools release the students, with puppies which attract children. It is a very well-known fact that sex offenders can not be cured; any of them is a potential threat to our children and adult citizens. Jorge Montero, Downey
