Robert Lowell Brabant

September 19, 1934 - October 18, 2019

Prominent local Realtor and long time Downey resident Robert Lowell Brabant died peacefully at P.I.H. hospital in Whittier on October 18, 2019 he was 85. Funeral services and burial at Rose Hills were held October 26th. Bob was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin on September 19, 1934 and spent his early life in Green Bay. During World War II, Bob’s father Davis Brabant was given the opportunity to move to Huntington Park. Following the end of the war, Davis opened Brabant Realty in Huntington Park.

Bob was accepted to USC in 1952 and graduated in 1956 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Real Estate. During his time at USC he lived at home and worked at Brabant Realty selling homes and as an assistant appraiser to Davis.

The family attended the Huntington Park First Methodist Church and it was at a young adult group at church that Bob met Lois Wave Danner. On August 27, 1955 Bob and Lois were married at the church and lived in Huntington Park until 1978 when they moved to Downey. Bob and Lois attended the Downey Methodist Church for many years after moving to Downey and were both active in the community. Their children are Donald Brabant (Stacy), Douglas Brabant and Christine Brabant-Bischoff (Gary). They also have eight grandchildren, Garrett, Kate, Megan, Drew, Chandler, Emery, Brian, Sarah and two great grandchildren, Jaxson, age 3 and Corey, age 2. After graduating from USC Bob continued his career as a real estate broker and in 1975 was awarded his M.A.I. appraisal designation from the American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers. Bob was elected President of the Southeast Board of Realtors in 1975 and served many years as Treasurer and as a board member. Bob’s great personality and brilliance as a businessman served him well in his long and successful real estate career.

Bob and Lois traveled the world and enjoyed dining out nightly at the Dal Rae or at Downey’s own Stox Restaurant.

Bob was a loving husband, father and family man and enjoyed spending time at their homes in Lake Arrowhead and Rancho Mirage. He will be greatly missed!
