Rancho Los Amigos celebrates its doctors

Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center, one of the largest medical rehabilitation centers in the United States, stands as a beacon of hope for individuals facing life-changing illnesses, injuries or disabilities.

At this renowned facility, physicians not only provide exceptional care to patients, but they also possess an unwavering intellectual curiosity and a commitment to advancing research. They go above and beyond their call of duty, demonstrating a genuine passion for improving the quality of life for people with disabilities by employing innovative treatments and therapies tailored to everyone’s unique needs. Their empathetic nature and compassionate approach create a supportive environment that fosters healing and rehabilitation.

Historically, Rancho’s physicians’ intellectual curiosity has driven them to explore cutting-edge technologies, collaborate with experts from various institutions and disciplines, and participate in groundbreaking studies. In the 1950’s, Dr. Vernon Nickell invented the halo skeletal fixator; in the 1980’s Dr. Jacquelin Perry broke new ground in the lab with her innovative work in gait analysis; and in 2021 Dr. Charles Liu was part of a team to implement a new brain-imaging technique which shows scientists and physicians the brain's inner workings in real time. Their commitment to advancing the field of medical rehabilitation not only benefits the patients at Rancho Los Amigos but also has far-reaching implications for individuals across nations facing similar challenges.

To recognize and appreciate the efforts of these exceptional doctors and to celebrate National Doctors Day, the Rancho Los Amigos Professional Staff Association (PSA) recently hosted a luncheon in the historic Harriman Building’s courtyard. This special occasion provided an opportunity to express gratitude for their contributions and acknowledge the profound impact they have made on countless lives. The luncheon served as a platform for the doctors to connect, share experiences, and inspire one another to continue their pursuit of excellence at Rancho.
