Police to purchase second SUV
DOWNEY - The Downey Police Department will purchase a second Chevy Tahoe and associated equipment that will be used by patrol supervisors and as a command post during critical incidents. The City Council approved the $80,500 purchase on Tuesday, which will be paid for using money from the police department's Asset Forfeiture Fund. The police department currently has one Chevy Tahoe that is used by supervisors in the field on a daily basis, but "when the current vehicle is taken out of service for routine maintenance or repair, our ability to provide the best response/service is greatly reduced," Police Chief Rick Esteves said. The purchase will have no impact on the city's General Fund.
