Middle school sports

Dear Editor:I played speed-a-way with the GAA (Girls Athletic Association) at East Junior High 43 years ago. At our high school reunion last summer we gushed over GAA memories. We could still name names, teams and games. GAA was the highlight of junior high for me, even though, I think, it was only once a week. But don't worry, when you eliminate it, there will still be boys, drugs, Macs and a whole lot of other stuff to keep the girls occupied. ("Parents Plead for Middle School Sports," 3/12/10) By the way, I never voted for monetary initiatives for school districts after being a teacher. I saw way too much waste, profit-making suckers and dum-dums in charge. All I need was chalk, a good pay check and discipline. Nice going, Downey. - Eli Coker, Downey
