Middle school, high school novels available for review

DOWNEY — Downey Unified invites the public to examine novels being considered for adoption by the Board of Education for use in middle and high school Social Studies and/or English courses.

The materials selected are in alignment with State Content Standards as required by California Code of Regulation (CCR), Title 5, Section 953(a).

Copies of the novels will be displayed for three consecutive weeks on the second floor in the Instructional Services Department of the Downey Unified Gallegos Administration Center, Monday through Friday, from Feb. 2 until March 2, 2021.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, appointments will be made for any person wishing to view these novels. Contact the office of Secondary Education at (562) 469-6781 to make an appointment.

The policy of the Board of Education provides that anyone wishing to offer suggestions or criticism about textbooks proposed for adoption must submit comments in writing to the Superintendent seven days prior to the Board meeting at which the books will be adopted.

Adoption will be recommended at the Board of Education meeting scheduled for April 20.
