Measure O reaction

Dear Editor: I am a little annoyed and troubled by the response to the passing of Measure O on the Downey Patriot’s Facebook page. A lot of residents were complaining about how property taxes would be higher and how the bond was unnecessary from the beginning.

I graduated from East (Doty) Middle School in June of 2010, and despite being a good school, there was some noticeable decay. Most of the middle and elementary schools were built in the 1950s and the basic infrastructure hasn’t changed much since.

Measure O is designed mainly to improve the middle and elementary schools. This would really help some of the departments that are in need of books and new equipment.

I’m willing to bet that most of the people that reacted negatively to Measure O haven’t attended middle school since the 90s. My point is to think of the students that are attending the schools right now -- they could really benefit from Measure O.
