Man shot and killed after fight at Santa Fe Springs Swap Meet
SANTA FE SPRINGS — A man who was involved in a fight near a Santa Fe Springs swap meet was shot to death during a confrontation with security guards, authorities said Monday.
The shooting occurred about 5:05 p.m. Sunday in the 13900 block of Mica Street, Whittier Police Department Lt. Paul Segura told City News Service. His department serves Santa Fe Springs.
The chain of events started with a large fight and a possible shooting, Segura said.
Arriving officers found the man suffering from a gunshot wound and he was pronounced dead at the scene, the lieutenant said.
Investigators determined that the deceased man had been armed with a firearm and shot at a group of people who left the scene, Segura said.
"Armed swap meet security guards responded and confronted the armed suspect," he said. A shooting occurred.
One man was detained and arrested "for his role in the assault," Segura said.
Investigators believe the incident was gang-related, he said.
