DOWNEY -- The UCLA football season is underway and the Southeast L.A. Bruins group has begun displaying its school spirit and support at its annual viewing watch parties.

The Southeast Bruins -- known officially as the UCLA Alumni Los Angeles Southeast Network -- celebrated the spectacular Bruin victory over the UNLV Rebels last Saturday. The event was well attended, with Downey, Maywood, and Cudahy councilmembers showing their support for the Bruins.

This year is especially noteworthy for the Southeast L.A. Bruins as Josh Rosen -- a member of the UCLA Southeast region -- has been spectacular as quarterback.

This Saturday, Sept. 19 marks the first ever Southeast L.A. Bruins tailgate at the Rosebowl.  The UCLA vs. BYU game kicks off at 7:30 p.m., but the Southeast L.A. Bruins will gather at 4:30 p.m.  Bruin alumni, fans, and supporters from the region are encouraged to attend.

Locally, the Southeast L.A. Bruins will also hold its regularly scheduled viewing watch party this Saturday at 7:30 p.m. for the UCLA vs. BYU game at Joseph's Bar & Grill.  Downey’s Joseph’s Bar & Grill has agreed to host the Southeast L.A. Bruins for the entire football season and has also agreed to donate 15% of the proceeds to UCLA.

The Southeast Bruins is officially recognized as the regional chapter of the Alumni Association of the University of California, Los Angeles. For questions about the group or a specific event, please contact Downey attorney Ricardo Perez at rperez@alumni.ucla.edu.
