Library celebrating 50 years

DOWNEY - The Downey City Library will celebrate its 50th birthday with a slew of free events tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.The library will be rededicated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9:30 a.m. featuring the City Council. The celebration will include a scavenger hunt, book giveaways, book raffles, and pi?±atas for children. Hector Navarro of Cakeland will lead a cake decorating demonstration for adults at 1 p.m. "There will be something for all ages; you might even meet one of your favorite book characters at our party," said City Librarian Nancy Messineo.
