Letter to the Editor: Time for layoffs?

Dear Editor:

Since there will be no in-school attendance, I'm sure that the Downey Unified School District will contact the California Department of Education to provide professional guidance to all the Downey students from their Sacramento headquarters.

There will be no need for most of the district staff or classroom teachers since there will be no classroom instruction.  One teacher for each grade level will be able to communicate with all of the students through the internet, at not only the Downey schools, but to all of the students in all of the schools in the state.

This would be a great way for the state to stabilize  our educational system. We also need to eliminate the food distribution program since child nutrition will be again assumed by parents in their homes.
