Letter to the Editor: The children in Congress

Dear Editor:

We are all to blame for the sorry spectacle of the Special Counsel Muller hearings in the House of Representatives because we sent children to Congress. I watched the hearings in its entirety and could not spot any adults among the congress members who participated.

The Democratic children wanted us to see President Trump as the devil reincarnated. The Republican children wanted to canonize him.

President Trump is not the devil but he is no saint either. He is simply an unprincipled individual who has no respect for the truth. I Googled “How many lies has Trump told to date” and found many organizations whose raison d’etre is to keep track of the President’s lies. The consensus is that 76 % of Trump statements are false and that he has said 10,796 lies in 819 days.

The Democrats tried to make a case for impeaching President Trump. That is not a good idea because even if successful it would mean that VP Pence, who is actually intelligent and has a defined orthodox conservative position, will become President and pardon President Trump from any and all crimes he has committed ala Gerald Ford with Nixon.

A more effective punishment for President Trump’s crimes would be to defeat him during the next presidential election. His ego will not take it and will lead him to make more irrational acts than he has done so far to the detriment of the Republican party who will abandon him immediately after his defeat, proving that they are not ideologically motivated.

That will not happen for several reasons. First, the Democrats are short of leaders who can effectively campaign against Trump. Second, it will be easier for Trump to get reelected since I will not be a candidate (The Downey Patriot, 6/27/19) Third, 77% of the US population is white. President Trump has eloquently stated what the majority of white people think about immigrants and he will win by a landslide for that reason alone. President Trump’s political base is solid. He could rape a woman in Times Square and his base will claim that she seduced him into doing it.

We must brace ourselves for four more years of a Trump administration. We must give him credit for using third world politics very effectively in our political process. It would not surprise me if he fakes an attempt on his life to gain sympathy if he sees himself behind in the election.

That is what third world politicians do and President Trump has emulated them very successfully.
