Letter to the Editor: Mayor's support for Larry Elder

Dear Editor:

I found it disappointing (but not surprising) that our Trump-loving mayor, Claudia Frometa, would welcome gubernatorial candidate Larry Elder to Downey.

Elder actively campaigned against COVID-19 vaccinations and against face-mask mandates, which constitutes a threat to public safety. Mayor Frometa likes to tout her work in the healthcare industry, and should know better than to support such dangerous rhetoric. COVID-19 has killed more than 300 of our Downey residents -- our neighbors, friends and family members.

When Mayor Frometa is up for re-election next year, I call on her to explain her support of Larry Elder, Donald Trump, and all others who turn a blind eye to science and have helped to unnecessarily prolong this pandemic.
