Letter to the Editor: Disrespectful candidates

Dear Editor:

Politics is a dirty game, this is not news to any of us. But two candidates in the current race for a City Council seat have brought campaigning in Downey to a new low and it’s sickening.

Catherine Alvarez (running in District 3) and Juan Martinez (District 5) have both held loud protests at the homes of City Council members and at fundraising events of other candidates.

As if that were not enough, my wife and I were at home relaxing this past Sunday when we heard several cars outside yelling Catherine Alvarez’s name from bullhorns. Three cars all in a row driving down a residential street with “Alvarez” banners on the sides.

Do they actually think this will get them votes? I can’t imagine what the people who think that is okay would do when on the council.

I have faith in my city and know that Downey voters will show these people the door. The disrespect they show for the city must not be tolerated.

I posted on Catherine Alvarez’s campaign page that I didn’t appreciate the noise from her drive-bys. This was her response: “It’s just a brief drive and you can go back to sticking your head in a hole like an ostrich.”
