Letter to the Editor: Commissioner's comments

Dear Editor:

Last week, Kevin Ezeh, a City of Downey Public Works Commissioner representing District 3, posted on Facebook that he “refuses to pass judgement on the Taliban until [he] sees what kind of statehood they establish.”

He continued: “Just because they don’t govern like us...doesn’t mean they can’t evolve.”

If Mr. Ezeh took even five minutes to study the Taliban’s history, he would learn of their long and well documented history of oppression, cultural genocide, public executions of women, and denial of basic human rights.

I am appalled at Mr. Ezeh’s comments, which are at best ignorant and at worst an affront to our nation’s military veterans. He should apologize and resign immediately or be removed by Councilwoman Catherine Alvarez, who appointed him to the commission. He is no position to represent Downey in any capacity.
