Kaiser Permanente Downey Medical Center recognized as a ‘Best Hospital’ in maternity care

DOWNEY – Kaiser Permanente Downey Medical Center has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a high performing “Best Hospital” in maternity care for 2022-23.

Downey Medical Center joined 10 other Kaiser Permanente hospitals in Southern California in being listed on U.S. News’ national list of Best Hospitals for Maternity Care.

“Providing an exceptional care experience for our members is the goal of all our physicians and staff,” said Gregg Durkee, interim senior vice president and area manager, Downey Medical Center. “The outstanding service they provide make Kaiser Permanente Downey Medical Center a top choice in Southeast Los Angeles County for expectant families to deliver their babies.”

To be considered for its list, U.S. News rated participating hospitals across the country in the following categories:

  • Cesarean births
    Exclusive breast milk feeding
    Unexpected complications in term newborns
    Vaginal births after C-section

“Our care teams work tirelessly to provide the highest quality maternal health care to our members and their families at each stage of pregnancy and delivery,” said Dr. J.T. Lee, area medical director, Downey Medical Center. “This award speaks to the success of our integrated care model and the dedication of our care teams.”

U.S. News evaluated 649 hospitals nationwide, including 67 medical centers in California, for its list and only U.S. hospitals that provided maternity services were considered for this study. Min Hee Seo, a senior health data analyst at U.S. News & World Report, told Medscape the new additions to the ranking system will help parents make more informed decisions about their maternal care.
