John Casillas installed as president of chamber
DOWNEY – The Downey Chamber of Commerce held its 115th Annual Installation of Officers and Directors on Wednesday, and with it installed John F. Casillas as the Chamber president for the upcoming year.
The afternoon event, held at the Embassy Suites, also included special recognition of and remarks from outgoing president Joanna Peterson.
One of those to honor Peterson was Councilmember Fernando Vasquez.
“You’ve done a phenomenal job in leading the Chamber this year,” said Vasquez. “One of the things that impressed me about about you is the amount of time you spent in Downey and how you care so much about our city…your morals and values come first to you. It really means a lot to me and the entire city…. Thank you for all the work you’ve done; you’ve definitely cemented your legacy as president of the Chamber.”
Michael Calvert, executive director of the Chamber, also praised Peterson.
“On behalf of the Chamber, I want to let you know how much we appreciate your leadership,” said Calvert.
Calvert also recognized Jeannie Wood, who is terming out of her current position on the Board of Directors.
Peterson soon stepped behind the podium thanking those in attendance and those of the chamber.
“I’ve had the privilege of being your president for the last year, and what a ride,” said Peterson. “I’ve had the very good fortune to have a family that’s supported me, the Chamber staff, business owners, a council that is just unbelievably supportive, directors, executive directors and also…our ambassadors.”
Peterson also addressed incoming president Casillas.
“John I will always support you,” said Peterson. “I wish you much success.”
It was then turn for Casillas to be sworn-in and address the crowd.
“If and when things do change, the Chamber of Commerce will always be there to assist,” said Casillas. “Like myself, like the next president beyond me, always ask the question ‘How can we assist?’”
New incoming directors were also sworn in. They include Rain Neg of Eipros, Larry Garces of Security Land Escrow, and Joe Cervantes of Mustard Seed Printing.
