Jewish settlements everywhere
DOWNEY - Jerry Silverman will speak on "Jewish Community in Exotic Places - How Did They Get There" at a workshop Tuesday at Temple Ner Tamid in Downey.Jewish communities exist in many remote areas around the world, starting with those on the Asian and African periphery. Silverman will discuss how Jewish communities flourished in Persia, Kurdistan, Bukhara, India, Morocco, Tunisia, Libya and other places. The program begins at 10:30 a.m. A catered kosher lunch will be served afterwards. Cost is $6 for members of the Ezra Center for Mature Adults, and $7 for non-members.
