Horacio Ortiz re-elected to Downey City Council

DOWNEY – Councilman Horacio Ortiz was re-elected Tuesday to a four-year term on the Downey City Council, running unopposed in his bid for another term.

Ortiz, who owns the El Pescador restaurant in Montebello, campaigned on a platform focused on expanding economic opportunities in south Downey. He has emphasized the need to bring in new businesses and support local growth to boost the area’s economic vitality.

Ortiz was first elected in a 2023 special election, following the resignation of Blanca Pacheco, who vacated her council seat after being elected to the California State Assembly. Since taking office, Ortiz has worked to promote initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for Downey residents, particularly in the southern part of the city.

Ortiz’s re-election secures his place on the council through 2028, where he aims to continue advocating for local business growth and community development.
