Early results: Trujillo, Pemberton appear headed towards re-election

DOWNEY — Downey Mayor Mario Trujillo and Councilwoman Dorothy Pemberton appear headed to re-election, according to early election results released Tuesday night.

Trujillo, running for a second four-year term in District 5, collected 11,473 votes (66%), far outpacing Joaquin Beltran (3,701) and Rudy Sandoval (2,085).

Results were even more decisive in District 3, where Pemberton had more than 70% of the vote over challenger Louis Morales.

Measure D, a quarter-cent sales tax increase to bolster public safety, appeared on its way to victory, according to the latest results. More than 67% of voters voted in support of its passing.
