Harold Hougland
April 18, 1924 - January 11, 2021
Harold Hougland was born on April 18, 1924 in Princeton, Indiana, to parents, Albert Hougland and Alma Tooley Hougland. He went to meet his maker on January 11, 2021. Harold spent his formative years in Oakland City, Indiana. After high school, he served three years in the Navy during WWII. While assigned to duty on an aircraft carrier in the South Pacific, he survived the “USS Franklin Disaster” in March of 1945. After the war, he attended Indiana University, graduating in l952 with a BA in Biology and made his move to California. Harold was a long-time, active member of First Presbyterian Church in Downey. You could also find him most days at the Downey Senior Center beating his friends at pool and playing cards. In Harold’s younger years, he was an accomplished trombonist and up to his departing sang in perfect pitch. Harold is survived by his daughter, Lorrie Wilson and her husband, Bruce of Rancho Mission Viejo; granddaughter, Kaitlin of Portland, Oregon; and sisters Diane Meade of Georgia and Janice Hayes of Colorado. Due to pandemic, no formal services will be held.
