Food drive a success

Dear Editor:Last Saturday was the National Association of Letter Carrier and the United States Post Service's National Food Drive. This food drive is conducted every second week in May throughout the United States. We would like to take this opportunity to extend our most heartfelt thanks to the community for their contributions to this most worthy cause. Because of the community's thoughtfulness we have collected approximately 8,000 pounds of food for our charities: Downey PTA HELPS and the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. The community can be proud they have helped a lot of people. I also would like to take a moment to thank all the letter carriers who put forth the extra effort on Saturday to deliver their routes and collect all the food.
