Firefighters on call

Dear Editor: I just want to mention something regarding what Mrs. Wilson had to say regarding the cities “emergency program — for $48 a year” in a letter to the editor. (“Firefighter Service, 5/7/15)

She mentioned that “as a subscriber our paramedics are on call.” I would like to remind everyone in our city that the Downey Fire Department is “on call” for each and every citizen of Downey 24/7, 365 days a year for emergencies. I believe the service she was referring to is for reduced or free transport to the hospital should you need it.

I also would like to mention that if you do subscribe to this program that it be used responsibly and you should only call for paramedic help in a true emergency. Our fire department does a great job in our city and I do not want people to think that they will get better service if they subscribe to this service. I don’t want people to think that someone will get an “immediate response” if they subscribe. Everyone gets an immediate response.

Finally, I would also like to thank the great guys of the Downey Fire Department. We take them for granted until we need them.
