DOWNEY – A fire broke out at Pieloon restaurant Wednesday night but a quick response from firefighters saved the building.

Firefighters responded to the restaurant at 9:41 p.m. after several 911 calls reporting visible flames.

Upon arrival, firefighters reported heavy smoke coming from the front of the building.

Twenty-two firefighters and four emergency medical technicians contained the fire β€œto the area of origin,” saving the building and its contents from being a total loss, officials said.

Customers and staff were inside the restaurant when the fire broke out but police officers got everyone out safely.

In a tweet, Pieloon thanked police officers and firefighters for their efforts.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Firefighters remained at the restaurant throughout the night.

An electrical fire in 2010 closed Pieloon for six weeks.
