Dr. Donald Brooks, longtime chiropractor, dies at 92
DOWNEY – Dr. Donald Brooks passed away peacefully at home July 28. He was 92.
Don was born Aug. 19, 1923 and grew up in Los Angeles where he attended Manual Arts High School. At 18 years old he joined the Army-Air Force where he was a tailgunner on a B-17 Flying Fortress. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross Medal for successfully completing 35 missions from England to Germany.
Don, a second generation chiropractor, eared his degree in 1947 and worked with his dad in L.A. He opened his chiropractic office in Downey in 1957, where worked for over 55 years, finally retiring the month of his 92nd birthday.
Don is survived by his wife of 70 years, Dolly; their two children, Melody Shinn and Lance (Cathy) Brooks; four grandchildren, Steven (Catherine) Shinn, Douglas (Caryn) Shinn, Jacqueline (Lance) Bidnick and Jeffrey (Jamie) Brooks; along with three great-granddaughters.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 20, at 10 a.m. at White Emerson Mourtuary in Whittier.
