Downey Street Faire returns Saturday

DOWNEY – The 22nd annual Downey Street Faire, featuring more than 100 vendors, a kid’s zone area with inflatables, specialty food booths and trucks, live entertainment, and the ever popular beer garden, takes place this Saturday. The event is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Brookshire Avenue, just north of Firestone.

“The chamber is proud to once again host this community event,” said Cindy Kovach, president-elect of the Downey Chamber of Commerce, which puts on the faire. “This year should see big crowds as we have a record number of vendors from all over the area.”

“The chamber and its many volunteers, ambassadors and city officials have worked countless hours to bring this amazing event to you, the citizens of Downey,” said Gail Courtney, executive director of the chamber. “Come out and join us.”

This year’s Street Faire includes a “Bike ‘N Roll” bicycle safety festival, which will be held in the Downey High School parking lot.

The festival will include bicycle skills courses, helmet fittings, bike safety checks, an obstacle course, on-street group rides, bike repairs, bike crafts, safety booths, and more.

There will also be free bicycle helmets and prizes.

The free event is for kids in grades K-5. It is sponsored by Kiwanis.

Children must be accompanied by an adult. For questions or more information, email Alex Gaytan at integrity2004@msn.com.
