Downey Master Chorale announces selections for May 22 concert

At their Christmas concert last season, the Downey Master Chorale also welcomed children to sing, with plans to start a new Downey Youth Chorale in the coming year.

DOWNEY -- For their spring concert May 22, Downey Master Chorale will present the youthful, brilliant, often deeply spiritual GLORIA by Antonia Vivaldi.

Featured in this concert will be the Da Capo Players from Costa Mesa, adding orchestral instruments to the tapestry of voices. Rounding out the program will be masterpieces by G. F. Handel, Gabriel Fauré, Randall Thompson, John Rutter and Rodgers and Hammerstein.

A dessert reception will follow the concert. The Downey Master Chorale encourages the whole family to come.

"This is an ideal opportunity to introduce your children to classical music," adds music director Margaret Zeleny.

The concert begins at 7 p.m. at Cornerstone Christian Worship Center. The church has graciously provided a venue for the Chorale's concerts and rehearsals. Support also comes from the Downey Arts Coalition, who encourages other sponsors and patrons to support our community chorus through donations or program ads.

The group also welcomes new singers to audition or visit a rehearsal. For more information go to downeymasterchorale.org.
