Downey Library's February auction items
DOWNEY – The Friends of the Downey City Library holds monthly silent auctions to raise money for library programs. This month’s items include:
“Washington’s Crossing” (The startling victory of Washington in New Jersey was a pivotal moment of American history.);
“Make Me” (lots of action in this new Lee Child thriller with Jack Reacher, “the coolest continuing series character”);
“Wonders of the African World” (a series of journeys into the African past by Henry Louis Gates, Jr.);
“Sabuda & Heinhart Present Castle-Medieval Days and Knights” (learn about medieval castles with this remarkable pop-up book);
“Glorious Technicolor-The Movies’ Magic Rainbow” (the films, the stars, the showmen….all the elements behind the phenomenon that changed movies forever);
“The Smithsonian book of Books” (from the days of clay tablets to electronic books – how the book has evolved along with the history of man);
“Modern Classics – Cookies, Biscuits…” (the classic cakes, desserts and cookies of the past with up to date ingredients);
“The Ancient World”(complete with maps, timelines, dynastic lists, and fascinating discussions on everything from ancient tomb robbers to hieroglyphic writing);
“Eric Clapton-Thirty Years of Music and Memorabilia” (beginning with the Yardbirds in 1963, here is the story);
The Beatles - 3 items (The Beatle Book of Recorded Hits-Souvenir Song Album; The Complete Beatles Recording Sessions-The Official Story of Abbey Road Years 1962-1970; 45 RPM record: “I Saw Her Standing There”) all items in used condition.
“Completely Mad” (a look behind the scenes of one of the world’s most loved, and hated, humor magazines)’
“The Hidden World of Birthdays and Relationships” (learn more about someone just by knowing their birthday).
Books have opening bids from $6-$8 and are on display in the library lobby. Bids can be made through noon, Saturday, Feb. 27, on cards in the Friend’s Bookstore located in the young adult section of the library.
