Downey hits 306 cases as L.A. County considers extending safer-at-home order
DOWNEY — Downey surpassed 300 coronavirus cases on Tuesday, the same day health officials said they were considering extending stay-at-home orders an additional three months.
Health officials confirmed 306 COVID-19 cases in Downey, an increase of 12 from one day ago.
Across all of L.A. County officials announced 961 new coronavirus cases along with 45 new deaths.
Public Health Director Dr. Barbara Ferrer told the LA County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday that the stay-at-home order “with all certainty” will be extended through July.
“Later this week, we will be issuing a new health officer order that continues to lay out directives that need to be followed as we continue on our recovery journey,” she later said in a statement. “Our journey will be slow and we will be looking closely at key indicators to make sure we are continuing to slow the spread of COVID-19. Thank you so much for working together and doing your part. Your actions have been working and saving lives.”
