Downey High School’s varsity cheer squad

Downey High School’s varsity cheer squad came in second place at the Dallas NCA Cheer Competition last month, missing out on first place by less than a point. Squad members spent six months raising money to compete in the tournament, marking the first time a Downey High cheer team has competed out of California, school officials said. Twelve moms and three coaches chaperoned the team.
