Downey High School’s jazz band

Downey High School’s jazz band made history last week, beating 10 top Southern California bands to win first place at the Western States Jazz Festival on Feb. 28. Downey competed in the Heavy Division, which is equivalent to the CIF Division 1. It was the school’s first time winning first place in this division.

Downey High’s second band won first place in the intermediate division, topping six other bands.
