CROP Hunger Walk set for Oct. 6
DOWNEY — The 7th annual Downey CROP Hunger Walk, a march through Downey streets to raise money to help hungry families, is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 6.
The walk begins at 1 p.m. at Downey Memorial Christian Church. Local churches, non-profits, businesses and residents are invited to participate.
The group’s goal is to raise $10,000, a quarter of which will be donated to Downey Council PTA HELPS and FoodHelp, two Downey organizations that provide food to local families. Remaining funds will go to Church World Service and local hunger-fighting agencies.
The CROP Hunger Walk is a national event that is now in its 50th year. Last year, walkers raised more than $8.3 million to fight hunger.
