Crime Report: 8/31/20
Detectives are investigating a brandishing of a firearm incident that occurred on Aug. 10 at about 4:20 a.m., near Elm Vista Dr. and Adenmoor Ave. The victim, an adult male, stated he was approached by male suspects in a newer model luxury vehicle. The suspects exited the vehicle and one of the males brandished a firearm. The victim ran from the suspects and hid in a garage while calling police. Officers checked the area and were unable to locate the vehicle.
On 8/12/2020 at approximately 11:45 a.m., two juveniles reported that their father had physically abused them at their residence in the 13000 block of Columbia Way. Both children had injuries including bruising and scars attributed to the abuse. Officers responded to the home and arrested the father without incident. Detectives assisted with the investigation. The father was charged with felony child abuse.
On 8/15/2020 at approximately 10 p.m., officers responded to a house that has received numerous loud party complaints in the 10000 block of Pico Vista Rd. The party was broken up and the homeowner received a citation for a municipal code violation.
Detectives are investigating a strong arm robbery that occurred on 8/15/2020 at about 11:30 p.m. at Downey Ave. and Alameda St. The female adult victim was in a parking lot and argued briefly with the suspect who then attacked her. Both fell to the ground and the victim dropped her purse. The suspect grabbed the victim's purse and fled. The victim sustained minor injuries from the incident.
On 8/16/2020 at approximately 1:35 p.m., officers were dispatched to the train tracks to the rear of 9800 block of Firestone Blvd. to assist the Downey Fire Department with a fire on the train tracks. Officers were needed for traffic control and because of transients in the area.
On 8/17/2020 at approximately 10:05 p.m., officers responded to the 11500 block of Old River School Rd. regarding a call of shots fired into an apartment. Officers determined the apartment in question was unoccupied. The victim later returned and believed the suspect was her mother's boyfriend due to her mother being in hiding after making a domestic violence report. Detectives responded to assist with the investigation and later discovered the suspect on the roof of his apartment complex. When confronted by officers and detectives, the suspect came down from the roof and was arrested without incident.
On 8/18/2020 at approximately 1 a.m., officers responded to 10200 Paramount Blvd., Chase Bank, regarding a robbery with a firearm. The adult victim was in the parking lot when he was approached by the adult female suspect who demanded his cell phone and money. The suspect raised her shirt and had an exposed firearm in her waistband. The victim drove off and the suspect was detained on Paramount Blvd., north of Florence Ave. Officers located a loaded 9mm handgun in the planter. The suspect was positively identified and arrested for robbery.
Detectives are investigating a robbery that occurred at Aloha Liquor, 11837 Lakewood Blvd., on 8/19/2020 at about 2:55 p.m. An adult male suspect entered the store, made a beer selection and walked out. When the clerk confronted the suspect outside the store and told him he needed to pay for the beer, the suspect brandished a knife then fled in a white truck.
On 8/20/2020 at approximately 6:15 p.m., officers responded to a call of an overdose in the 8400 block of Lexington Dr. The juvenile female was heavily intoxicated with labored breathing. Downey Fire Department transported her to Downey PIH where she recovered.
On 8/21/2020 at approximately 4 p.m., officers responded to the 7400 block of Firestone Blvd. regarding a stabbing call. A male transient approached the victim while holding two knives. For no apparent reason, the suspect stabbed the victim in the thigh and cut his right hand. Officers arrived and detained the suspect without incident. The victim was treated for a minor stab wound and cut, and refused to go to the hospital. The knives were recovered and the suspect was booked for assault with a deadly weapon.
On 8/23/2020 at approximately 9 p.m., Whittier Police Department requested a police canine for a search of a building that was burglarized in the 13100 block of Firestone Blvd. Corporal Rodriguez and his canine partner, Rex, responded and a search was conducted. The suspect was not located during the search.
