Crime Report: 5/25/21
On May 11 at 2020 hours, officers responded to non-injury hit and run traffic collision. Prior to police arrival, the suspect fled in his vehicle and the victim gave chase. On a cul-de-sac the victim boxed in the suspect vehicle to prevent it from continuing to flee. The suspect reacted by backing into the passenger side of the victim's vehicle and the occupants exited the vehicle. The suspect maneuvered around the victim's vehicle, striking the passenger in the process, causing minor injuries. The suspect fled the scene. Patrol officers located the suspect vehicle. Detectives are actively investigating the case.
On May 12 at 1715, officers responded to 9020 Firestone Blvd., Big Lots, in regards to an adult male suspect causing a disturbance. Security attempted to escort the suspect off the property a confrontation followed. The suspect brandished a self-made knife, stated he was going to kill the security guard, and attempted to stab the security guard. The security guard was unharmed during the encounter. Responding officers located the suspect who was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon.
On May 14, the Downey Police Department conducted a DUI / Driver’s License Checkpoint to promote public safety and with the intention of deterring drivers from driving impaired. During the operation 1,192 vehicles passed through checkpoint and four drivers were arrested for DUI. Funding for the operation was provided through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety and through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
On May 15 at 2350 hours, an officer was actively patrolling the parking structure at 8201 2nd St, when he observed fresh tagging. The officer located an adult male subject in the immediate area. During the subsequent investigation, the subject was found to be in possession of spray paint, admitted to vandalizing the location, and was arrested.
