Crime Report

Friday, April 27At 1:30 a.m., officers responded to 12100 Lakewood Boulevard (Downey Studios) regarding prowler noises coming from inside one of the buildings. During a subsequent search, officers detained three (3) suspects who were attempting to harvest and steal copper from inside the structure. The suspects were arrested and charged with commercial burglary.

Saturday, April 28 At 6:50 p.m., officers responded to 11131 Brookshire (Downey Chamber of Commerce) concerning a suspicious briefcase. The briefcase was resting against the south wall of the building, adjacent to the theatre. The Sheriff's bomb squad was notified and responded to the scene. As deputies were preparing to inspect the briefcase with a mechanical robot, the owner of the briefcase, an employee of the Chamber, showed up. The owner stated he forgot the briefcase as he was cleaning up after the Street Faire.

Monday, April 30 At 4:20 a.m., the victim noticed that his car was missing from his residence. As he searched the surrounding area, the victim saw the stolen vehicle parked to the front of a house on Downey Avenue at Klondike with an unknown subject attempting to raise its hood. When the victim approached, the suspect brandished a screwdriver and charged at him. The victim sidestepped the suspect, as he (suspect) entered the driver's seat of an awaiting vehicle and fled the scene. Detectives are investigating.

Tuesday, May 1 At 11:30 a.m., officers responded to the El Pollo Loco restaurant located at 9341 Firestone Blvd, in regards to a male loitering and acting strange. Officers contacted the male who was detained and found to be under the influence of an unknown substance. He was arrested and taken for medical treatment for an unrelated injury, prior to being booked for being under the influence of a controlled substance.

Wednesday, May 2 At 7:31 p.m., officers responded to the 12700 block of Brock Avenue in regards to a male who had been hit by a vehicle. Responding officers learned the male was a repossession agent who had been hit by the vehicle he was attempting to repossess. The male suspect entered the vehicle and drove off striking the victim causing a fractured leg. There was limited information on the suspect. Detective are investigating.
